Audit Client Showcase: Sutherland Food Services
Building Connections and Supporting Independence | The Role of Sutherland Food Services
Sutherland Food Services is a vital community organisation operating on the well-established "Meals on Wheels" model. Funded by the Department of Health and Ageing through the Commonwealth Home Support Program, their purpose is clear: "To work together as a community to help individuals live the life they choose."
More Than a Meal
At its core, Sutherland Food Services delivers nutritious meals to older Australians in their homes. However, the impact goes far beyond food. These deliveries also provide much-needed social interaction, combat loneliness, and improve overall wellbeing for clients.
One example of their transformative work involves a 90-year-old gentleman in the Shire. With no informal support, he found it difficult to shop or prepare meals. The organisation stepped in, providing him with a tailored meal plan and pairing him with a volunteer. Within just three months, his outlook on life dramatically improved. The volunteer's visits have become a highlight of his week, and through this relationship, he has also been connected to other services that help him maintain independence in his own home.
For many clients, these meal deliveries are a bridge to community connection and essential resources that ensure their quality of life.
Overcoming Challenges
With funding and program reviews on the horizon, Sutherland Food Services is navigating a challenging year ahead. Nevertheless, their commitment to supporting the community remains strong. Volunteers are the heart of their operations, and their dedication keeps the service running smoothly, even in uncertain times.
Join the Team and Make an Impact
Sutherland Food Services relies on community members to help continue their vital work. Volunteers can contribute by delivering meals, assisting in the kitchen, or providing support in the office. Every role plays an important part in ensuring older Australians can thrive.

A Trusted Partner: Maher Group Accounting
“One of our volunteers, Mr Arthur Atlee mentioned that his son was an Auditor. Immediately after speaking with Trent, I knew that the Maher Group was the auditor for us. Trent had assisted Arthur on a meal delivery run so had insight into the operations of our service. Immediately I could see that the decision was the right one. Trent and his staff were professional and clearly had worked with not for profits. Nothing was a problem...” – Sue Green
